- Choirs, congregational singing, spoken responses, use of songbooks and worship materials may be fully resumed.
- The Sign of Peace may be restored.

Social Gatherings
- All social gatherings may resume while incorporating the guidance on masks and physical distancing noted above.

We are most grateful to our staff and all the faithful volunteers who worked hard to create an environment in the church, school and chapel that’s clean and sanitary, for everyone’s protection. Thanks for all you’ve done!

Now it’s time to welcome all our parishioners, friends and guests back to weekend Mass and other parish and school activities, after a long time away. We’ve certainly missed you and have been praying for you, and are delighted to see so many already returning. You can feel safe and confident coming to church or chapel for in-person Masses and services; however for those who aren’t able to join us we’ll continue live-streaming weekend and daily Masses and other liturgies from both church and chapel, on our YouTube and Facebook Live channels. This is thanks to the efforts and expertise of our Deacons Tom and Brian and their collaborators.

Thank you for your ongoing gracious and prayerful support of the ministries and mission of St Gilbert Parish, and enjoy a safe and restful summer.

Peace of Christ,

Fr John Chrzan, Fr Christian Shiu & Fr Gus Belauskas

ST. GILBERT’S Transitioning into PHASE 2 of our CHURCH REOPENING. . .

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. GIlbert:

Great news! The Archdiocese of Chicago has approved and certified St. Gilbert Catholic Church to begin Phase 2 of the reopening plan, which allows for the resumption of modified public Masses and increased attendance for baptisms, weddings, funerals, private prayer and Eucharistic adoration.  We are working hard to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures that have been put into place by the Archdiocese -- all which are designed to promote the safest experience possible.

What does this mean?

A modified Sunday Mass schedule will begin June 6-7 with the following Archdiocese of Chicago guidelines:

• For Masses on June 6-7, no more than 50 attendees may attend each Mass.

This recommendation is made by the Archdiocese so that our reopening task force team and volunteers can gain critical experience in managing and keeping safe larger numbers of people, as well as accomplishing cleaning and disinfecting between Masses. This further gives practice at managing the flow of parishioners coming and going between Masses while observing social distancing.

Registration is REQUIRED to Attend Mass

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Gilbert:

We are happy to announce this week's schedule for Adoration and Reconciliation:

Adoration (Simple Exposition and Reposition only):

Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - 5PM to 8PM in the Church

Wednesday, June 3, 2020 - 5PM to 8PM in the Church

Saturday, June 6, 2020 - 4PM to 5PM in the Church

As with our opening day of prayer and confessions, all safety guidelines continue to be in effect. A maximum occupancy of 10 people (excluding ministers and greeters) is permitted in the Church at one time. In addition, everyone entering the Church must wear a face covering. Entry continues to be the main entrance (Route 120, under the canopy) ONLY.

Furthermore, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you more good news. Today, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced its transition into PHASE II of reopening. Phase II of reopening allows parishes to apply for authorization to celebrate weekend and weekday public Masses, and with a higher maximum occupancy.

At this time, St. Gilbert Parish is mobilizing its resources and implementing the necessary steps to attain certification and approval for the activation of Phase II. As developments become available, we will notify you.  Please continue to consult our parish and school websites and social media outlets for the latest information.

As we move forward with eager anticipation in the safe reopening of our churches, let us keep each other in prayer. Let us also pray for peace in our country, in our cities, and in our neighborhoods.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

St. Gilbert Reopening Leadership Team

May 28, 2020

We have great news to announce! St. Gilbert Parish has now received certification from the Archdiocese of Chicago. Therefore, effective immediately, we have been granted permission to activate Archdiocesan Reopening Plan Phase 1 and 1A. For more information about the Plan, and to review what is allowed under Phase 1 and 1A, please visit:

Having been certified, St. Gilbert Parish will reopen on Saturday, May 30, 2020 for Adoration and the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please note the following details:

The main entrance of the Church (under the canopy, Route 120 side) will serve as the sole entry point. Occupancy at any given time within the church building will be limited to 10 people -- not including ministers such as ushers.  Everyone must also maintain a social distance of 6 feet and wear a face covering.

Hours of Adoration and Confession:

Silent Adoration and Prayer:  from 12PM to 6PM (in the Church)
All are asked to visit for no longer than 20 minutes, per Archdiocesan protocol.

Confessions:  from 3PM to 5PM (in the Church)
Fr. John, Fr. Christian and Fr. Gus will be available during this time.

Please know that this opportunity is possible through the institution of the social distancing guidelines developed by the Archdiocese of Chicago in collaboration with all necessary government agencies, including the CDC. It is also made possible through the volunteer teams that have been assembled and trained for the purpose of keeping our environment and the people in it as safe as possible.

Of course, we ask that if you are feeling ill, have been exposed to someone with COVID 19 in the past 14 days, or have underlying conditions that might make you more vulnerable at this early stage, please stay home until you are well and able to visit.

The pastoral staff at Saint Gilbert is keeping all of you in prayer as we move forward together. We will keep you informed as more opportunities become possible, including a fixed schedule for when personal prayer and Reconciliation will be available on a weekly basis. Updates will continue to be posted on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms.

The re-opening of our Church for Masses and other activities will be a bit more complex:

This will be handled in a phase by phase manner. Everything possible will be done to provide people the solace of the Church's sacramental life in a timely and reasonable way as well as following the guidelines from the CDC.

Phase I, when allowed by the state, will allow parishes to reopen for Baptism, Reconciliation, Weddings and Funerals with a limit of 10 attendees. During Phase I, parishes WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to offer either daily or Sunday Mass, EVEN WITH 10 OR FEWER ATTENDEES. The resumption of public Mass, regardless of the number of attendees will be determined by the Archdiocese of Chicago in accordance with input from state and local government officials.

Phase IA, allows for parishes to reopen for private prayer and adoration with a limit of 10 attendees.

Phase II, will allow for reopening for weekday and weekend Masses for larger groups depending on the guidelines from the state and the capacity of the Church or Chapel buildings.

We will keep you informed as our parish moves along the phase by phase re-opening procedure.

We will reach out to all our families who have been waiting for news on sacrament scheduling as soon as we possibly can. Thank you for your continued support of Saint Gilbert Church in this unprecedented time. Let’s
continue to keep each other in prayer! #StGilbertStrong

Fr. John
